Meals and nutrition
Kiddies on First management believes good nutrition is vital for young children to support active growth and development and to provide the energy children need to power through their day. The service menu follows the ‘Healthy Plate’ model.
When menu planning educators work collaboratively with nutritionists to meet the standards and guidelines set by NSW Health. Our menu meets the daily RDI for children in care and has been awarded a certificate of compliance from NSW Health. Educators have adopted and implemented the ‘Munch and Move’ program to help the development of healthy bodies.
Children need to consume a variety of food from each of the basic food groups to ensure their nutritional requirements are met. Meal times at Kiddies on First are happy and relaxed. We believe that a stress free mealtime helps to develop good eating habits.
Meal times are social occasions where educators encourage children to be seated and to develop independence, self- esteem and self-help skills. Educators discuss in a simple way the nutritional value of food and other related conversation. Children are praised for their efforts and are given choice where possible.
Children with cultural needs and food allergies are catered and planned for. Educators have adequate anaphylaxis management training. Families are encouraged to communicate their child’s food needs with the centre director and cook.

Children’s portfolios and StoryPark
Documenting each individual children’s learning journey is an essential part of our curriculum. The children’s portfolio promotes strong communication between educators, children and parents in regards to the child’s development through all the stages of development in our curriculum.. This piece has encouraged your child to become autonomous as they work on the piece independently.
Start Strong-School readiness / transition program
At Kiddies on First educators believe that they are preparing your child for school from the first day they commence enrolment. All experiences leading them to the development of skills that will prepare them for a life of learning.
The pre-schoolers are offered a School transition program based on the National Early Years Learning Framework. The Framework has a strong emphasis on play-based learning as play is the best vehicle for young children’s learning and provides the most appropriate stimulus for holistic development.
The Framework also recognises the importance of communication and language (including early literacy, numeracy, social and emotional development).
Educators believe the value of play is of utmost importance to children as it is their way of learning about their world. While children are playing they are able to express their creative ability, release emotions and can share their feelings in a supportive environment.
Educators also believe that raising a child takes a community. Therefore educators work collaboratively with families and other support workers to ensure the best interests of the child are met.
Age appropriate resources and facilities
Our welcoming and family friendly service provides a safe and comfortable environment for your child. Educators pride themselves in offering a warm and nurturing facility for your child to learn and grow.
Age appropriate resources and facilities are provided, including furniture to scale that fosters self-help skills and independence.
Educators are always sourcing creative materials and equipment that are up to date with industry standards and provide children with open ended learning experiences.
